The Canadian Pet Community Awards
The Canadian Pet Community Awards presented by Pets Canada highlights the work of exceptional Canadian individuals and businesses who are 2023 Pets Canada members.
This year, in addition to our annual slate of award categories, we are proud to introduce a new category: John and Kelly Ayres Philanthropy Award for manufacturing and distribution companies.
The Western Edition includes the regions of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia.
Who can nominate who?
The nomination process is open to anyone from the pet community. The top 5 nominated candidates in each category will be announced prior to the voting process. The candidate with the most votes will win in their respective category. Note: All nominated candidates must be active members of PIJAC Canada and have not won the previous year.

Everyone can vote! The candidate with the most votes will win in their respective category. Note: all nominated candidates must be active members of PIJAC Canada.
Each event includes five (5) award categories:

John and Kelly Ayres Philanthropy Award
** Note: The John and Kelly Ayres Philanthropy Award Winner will be presented at our Toronto Show. We only have one winner for this category. **
Criteria for Each Category
- John and Kelly Ayres Philanthropy Award
- Manufacturing or Distribution Sales Representative
- Retailer – Independent Business or Chain Store Location
- Pet Service Provider
John and Kelly Ayres Philanthropy Award
- Aiding the pet community through support events and initiatives,
- Involvement in animal and pet business advocacy issues,
- Supporting the right of responsible pet businesses to offer healthy pets to the community,
- Mentoring up-and-coming pet businesses.
Manufacturing or Distribution Sales Representative
- Has a talent for helping business owners and their staff learn about the products and how they can benefit their clients
- Is always readily available for ongoing support for clients and pet owners
- Willingly participates in their clients’ community events, lending a hand and engaging pet families
- The company must be a 2023 PIJAC Canada member (Canadian, American, or International)
- Sales’ Rep must be Canadian and do business within the Canadian market
Retailer – Independent Business or Chain Store Location
- Must be a brick and mortar location and a 2023 member of PIJAC Canada (when voting for the Chain Store Retailer Award, you are voting for one (1) specific franchisee or location, not the whole franchise).
- Promotes responsible pet ownership in the store and community (ex: take-home information packages, care workshops, school visits, etc.)
- Supports pet & pet families in the community (ex: pet food bank, raising awareness on issues impacting pets in the community, assisting other animal organizations, etc.)
- Store location must be Canadian based
Pet Service Provider
- Must be an individual offering pet services through their own registered business and a 2023 member of PIJAC Canada
- Promotes responsible pet ownership through their services and community (ex: take-home information packages, after-sale care program, care workshops, school visits, etc.)
- Supports pet & pet families in the community (ex: pet food bank, raising awareness on issues impacting pets in the community, assisting other animal organizations, etc.)
- Company location must be Canadian based
